Lucas passed away last night (September 2) at 10:55pm with Aaron and I laying beside him. He touched our lives and hearts and will be deeply missed. Thank you to all who have been a part of our lives through this difficult time. It is a bittersweet feeling as we are sad to see him go and yet relieved he is no longer in pain. We know that he is with our loving Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ and that they will take good care of him. We look forward to the day when we will be reunited.
Funeral details to follow.
Shannon

Aaron and Shannon,
ReplyDeleteI have not seen you since your wedding day. It has obviously been along time, but I want you to know how much I have thought about your family in the last few months. Roger informed me about your son's situation. I want you to know how much it has affected me. I was so sad to hear about his death. Today, as I was looking at your blog and talking to a good friend of mine about this, I found my self crying and mad that this could happen to such an innocent child, and great family. Then I looked at Shannon's beautiful face in the last picture you posted and you can see the red eyes (from crying, lack of sleep, etc...) but also a smile. That she you are comforted and can overcome this. This could have happened to any of us. I am so sorry it was you, but please know how much it has changed many of us. If Phil and I have another boy I would want to name him Lucas in honor of the love and mission your son has inspired in us. Love,
Phil and Bonnie Richards (family)

I'm so sorry to hear of this. My heart aches for you. May the Lord bless you at this time.

I heard about your loss through my sister, Tami Robbins. I want to thank you both for sharing your feelings on your blog. I am so sorry that your little Lucas had to go through cancer and pass away! Thank you for sharing your gospel perspective. I, too, am so grateful for the plan of salvation and the knowledge that we can be reunited with our loved ones after this life. My father's life was taken when I was 12 and having the knowledge of life after this life is what got me through (and still gets me through 19 years later). How special that your husband explained all about the separation and reuniting of the spirit and the body to your boys. They are very blessed to have you as parents! I know I do not know you, but my prayers are with you!!
ReplyDeleteMuch Love,

While I don't know your family personally, I want to offer my deepest sympathies to you all. May God hold you all in the palm of His hand as you make your way through this. Lucas is dancing with Jesus now, and free of pain!
ReplyDeletePraying for peace and comfort.

ReplyDeleteYou do not know me, I am Audra Armstrong's mother Colleen. We have been informed of the trials that you have been going through and our prayers have been with you. While I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes I just want to let you know that your Lucas is indeed with a loving Heavenly Father who will take care of him. Lucas has a greater mission now, far greater then we can even imagine. The greatest blessing is the knowledge that we will all be together again as eternal families. I pray that our Heavenly Father will bless you and yours during this very sad time in your lives and I know that you have a wonderful ward that will support you and love you.

ReplyDeleteI'm Valeri Stoddart's niece and was recently informed of Lucas' story. I have been so touched by your faith and strength. You are such beautiful people and clearly a choice family to be presented with such a heart-breaking trial. Thank you for reminding the rest of us how delicate life truly is, and how important it is to keep the eternal perspective. These last few days you have been in my thoughts constantly. We've prayed fervently for you in our family prayers and shed many tears on your behalf. Last night I glanced at the clock at 10:40 while cleaning the kitchen. You guys suddenly came to mind, and I found myself wondering how your day had gone and how Lucas was doing. How precious to think only moments later he went from your arms to his Savior's.
ReplyDeleteMay you be blessed with peace, comfort and understanding. We will continue to pray for you. Thank you for touching the lives of so many.
Valeri Andersen
My heart is full and spilling over - my heart is truly breaking for you. You don't know me but my friend Melissa Bradley is in your ward and shared your story. We grew up together and both lost a parent entirely too cancer. I cannot imagine the pain that you have had to endure these past few months/weeks/days/hours. Your face is radiant as you hold your dear Lucas in your arms - he is truly blessed to have you as his mother and father forever. May you feel the peace of the Atonement as you go through this trial that no one should have to endure. I admire your faith and strength.

i'm another of the many people who you don't know but i feel like i know you and your family so well. though i never knew lucas, i feel like i did and have been deeply impacted by his struggle and sweet, sweet spirit. there is no question that he is a very special individual who has touched hearts all over the country and truly has unlocked the love in people's hearts. i haven't been able to stop thinking of your family for the past few days and especially lucas. he got into my heart and i have shed many tears on his behalf. i pray you will be comforted at this time and may God bless you for your faith and trust in Him. my thoughts continue to be with you and your family at this time.
ReplyDeleteLord, I pray right now for this precious family who has lost a most treasured son. God, I ask for comfort and peace right now and in the long days to come. May their faith and trust in you never waiver, even on the days that are unbearable. Please give them strength when they have none and help them to rest in you as they look forward to the day they are reunited as a family.
ReplyDeleteIn Jesus name.
